Few Questions About Upgrading

Hi, just got a few questions regarding an upgrade.

I'm thinking if upgrading to a 7970 from a 7850 as I want to be able to play BF4 on ultra and with the new games coming out demanding more I think it's a good time to upgrade.

My question is, will it be a worth while upgrade? I've heard it's a great GPU but what sort of difference will I see? It's a lot of money for me and I want to make it's the right purchase!

I would suggest waiting a bit. AMD is releasing its r8 and r9 cards soon(15th i believe), and Nvidia is rumored to be dropping prices and possibly release some new cards of its own before the end of the year.

That should give you an idea of the performance difference. But just wait, AMD recently revealed their brand new Radeon Rx line of graphics cards. We're waiting on performance benchmarks, but it's noticeably well priced. Their flagship GPU is rumored to outperform the Titan yet it's rumored to be priced at $700, just to give you a reference point. But yea, I'd wait.

This guy is right. The 7850 isn't bad by all means as of now, and it wouldn't hurt to wait for these new cards since your current card will last you.

So you think my best bet is to wait then? How much are these new cards going to be? I don't want to spend any more than £300 really.

For 300 you maybe able to get a R9 280x. The 280x is an rebranded 7970 with higher clock speeds.

As has been said, definitely wait. Pricing, as usual, will depend on the card model. Note, however, we're also saying that you could also get a better current card once overall prices are adjusted.

Cheers for the replies lads! The reason I'm asking is the 7970 is on offer at 227 quid at OverClockers which seems like a great offer. What difference will these new cards give me in terms of performance and frames etc?

227 quid, if I'm looking at these conversions right (I'm from the states) is about the average price for a 7970 right now. In terms of performance from the new cards, the thing is that we don't have a concrete idea because they haven't been released yet. There's been leaked benchmarks but we shouldn't be able to trust those immediately. If you can wait until October 15th when the r9 series is released, there'll be benchmarks out that day, plus there might be even better deals on the Radeon HD 7970.

I'll wait then, I might as well instead of rushing in to it! Are these new GPU's meant to be more powerful or? I just want a card that can play the upcoming games coming out on ultra.

The R9 290x Is supposedly faster than a Nvidia Titan.
