I've recently had this happen to me. I'll be playing a game, for example Splinter Cell: Blacklist, Crysis 2, Dota 2, and my computer will just shut down. When I turn it back on I get no windows errors, and everything works as normal.

However, if I'm playing Path of Exile, Diablo 3, League of Legneds or Starcraft 2, I can play for hours on end with no problems at all.

Here is my setup.

AMD Phenom II x4 955 3.2Ghz
12GB DDR3 RAM
nForce 750 motherboard
GTX 760 superclocked
samsung 128GB ssd
WD 500GB HDD
650W corsair PSU

I was running a GTX465 until a couple weeks ago, and I had the same problems. I also started noticing this a couple days after I installed the new SSD, I don't know if that has anything to do with the problem.

I had a similar problem when I bought build the computer 3 years ago, I RMA'd the mobo and got a new one and it's been fine until now. Back then I had the same problem but with all games.

I'm not really sure where to go from here and hopefully some one will be able to help.

Thanks!

The fan is spinning. It is mounted correctly. Idle, the CPU is at 42C. What do you recommend? Resitting the fan and applying thermal paste? Aftermarket fan?

I took off the fan and cleaned off the old thermal paste. I applied new paste using the pea method, made sure the clamps were tight and the fan seated correctly. I blew out all the dust from the fan, as well as the whole case.
On idle I was getting 42C and around 86C on full load. I guess I either did something wrong, or there is something else I must do.

Any ideas?

I bought it in November of 2010, so it is almost 3 years old. It is not overclocked, I don't think. It is clocked at 3.2Ghz. Maybe I could underclock it?

Is there a reason why in the last two weeks this would start to happen? Is the CPU just old and dying?
