I know of the OEM version of windows that comes on prebuilts, where it is tied to the mobo therefore not allowing you to upgrade without buying a new copy. Then there is the full "retail" version which allows you to upgrade your mobo and whatnot/

Would this: http://www.amazon.com/Windows-System-Builder-OEM-64-Bit/dp/B0094NY3R0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1381002142&sr=8-1&keywords=windows+8+system+builder be that full retail version? I need an OS for my build and i dont want to get the version that i will have to repurchase when i upgrade my mobo down the line

Is it possible that it dosent exist? in a way to make people repurchase the OS with upgrades?

I would think i would be able to find a copy on amazon but when searching all i can find is Windows 8 system builder OEM and the Windows 8 pro system builder OEM

Hmm, interesting. I guess i could try that. Though i will probably end up buying a copy of W8 anyways just in case it dosent work, and return it if it does.

Do you think the fact im going from a AMD mobo to a intel mobo would add any complications to that?

I don't think it will. But haven't made that move. Worse case is that you'll have to activate by phone. the process is automated and pretty easy. IF your going from AMD to Intel you will need to reinstall. So you will need a Windows disc and CD key

Yeah i dont have the disk.

Well looks like i will just purchase it, though it seems a full version just dosent seem to exist. Just OEM and upgrade, upgrade being the closest version to full but you have to have XP, vista, or 7 already installed.

OEM version still lets you change the board and do upgrades.
If automated activation does not work, just use the telephone method. I've done it plenty of times and it works fine.
Yes, Windows 8.1 retail is the full version.
For Windows 8, retail ones are Upgrade. To get the full version it's call
Windows 8 System Builder/OEM.
There also OEM version of Windows 8.1 and they're cheaper than retail ones.

So the retail version that i linked works for a new build even if you currently dont have a OS? Also if i were to buy that version i linked could i put the 64 bit version on my main pc and put the 32 bit on a secondary pc?

No. You can only use the Product key once...

Both the version you linked, and OEM version can be install on a computer that does not have a OS.
If you were to buy the version you linked, you cannot install 64bit to one computer and then 32bit to another because the license can only be used on 1 computer.

Ok. But with the version i linked i can use it again after a mobo change without calling MS? (Through "un registering" it from my current computer and then registering it after the upgrade)

There is a limited number of times it can be activated online without having to call Microsoft. Most users will probably never pass the limit, unless they're constantly upgrading/changing parts or formatting and reinstalling the OS.
If online activation has passed its limits, then Windows needs to be activated over the telephone. The telephone is mostly automated, so it's just as easy as activating online.

Yes, you can change the motherboard and activated Windows again without calling Microsoft, but there is a limit, until you will have to call Microsoft for reactivation.
