I have an old Dell Vostro 220 with a busted motherboard. I was going to just go on ebay and get a replacement but the cheapest I could find was 50-70 dollars. So I figured I just get a micro Atx or mini ITX board to replace it instead and build an htpc.
Intel Core 2 quad Q8300, 2.5 Yorkfield (I heard it's a weird chip to overclock, so not a huge necessity but would still like to if possible...)
4GB, 2X2GB ddr 2 ram (but more than willing to upgrade to ddr3 if the board is similar price)
edit: just checked ddr3 memory prices and it seems a bit high, still willing to get ddr3, but let's hear the ddr2 boards first! and side question: How much of a difference will I see if I upgrade to ddr3? if it's MASSIVE, let's go with ddr3
EVGA GeForce 9500 GT 1GB Video Card (in case the board requires dedicated video card, don't have to use if there's no room)
450watt corsair psu (not sure if psu meant for an atx will fit in small htpc case or if those cases come with their own psu...?)
Cheap is good, but if there are major feature differences (like overclocking capabilties) I'd be open to suggestions. I prob prefer mini-itx over micro-atx only because I'm not going to really expand the computer, but again if prices or abilities are significantly different I'm more than open to suggestions.
Also, I know this is the motherboard thread but if you have case suggestions, I'd like to hear those too!
Thanks!
