headline itself describes everythin,
i felt my c2q q8300@ 2.5ghz is somewhat bottleneck in few games,,.. btw i cant overclock it as my motherboard has a fsb wall of 1340mhz i.e gigabyte g41mcombo
so if i exchange with a q6600 (with my friend for no extra money ) and overclock from 1066(2.4ghz) to 1333mhz (3.0ghz), is it good for games
questions
1>i heard that old cpu's higher clocks are not efficient compared to it's next gen
2> is it worth exchange, and all that power consumption??
3> if worth then by how much (btw em quite happy with my q8300 performance)
4> can my corsair cx430v2 (32A@12v rail) handle overclocked system
system specs
c2q q8300 @2.5ghz with cooler master hyper 212 evo
gigabyte g41m combo
asus gtx 560ti direct cuII (stock)
corsair cx 430v2 (32A@12v rail)
4gb ddr3 transcend normal ram
disconnected cd rom to save power
acer 24" 1080p led

Well a Q8300 and a Q6600 are nearly identical in performance. Its 100 mhz difference really. I got a Q6600 and for some reason i can't get it to overclock past 2.6. not sure why though. My E4600 went to 3.0 no issue at all.
But yea the Q6600 overclocked is better to a stock Q8300...But why not just over clock what you have???
My E4600 @ 3.0 was WAAAY better than my P8600 in my laptop.

e4600 has fsb800 and q6600 has 1066fsb, so u were able to push e4600 easily

Oh yea on air cooling and not touching vcore voltage. Bumped fsb to 1000 and it ran very stable. Never had issues and ran it like that for like 5 years. The ram was OCed to 900 from 800
But for some reason just cant get this q6600 past 2.6. Done everything. It just wont get past post. If i used the ai tuning for overclock amd do a 20% boost it get to 2.93 and will load windows but then it fails.
