We have my wife's work computer and my computer on a kvm switch. My vid card is Radeon hd 6770. Bought a hdmi to VGA converter for a second monitor but plug keeps flashing my screen. The main monitor is my tv 32 in widescreen dvi to vga. Want to keep it that way. Have a 19 inch monitor as a second hence the hdmi adaptor. Tried to install a second vid card the same brand but lower much lower (x1300). Created problems. How to fix this

I think its the converter. If your hooking it up to a TV why not just keep it HDMI??

The tv is the dvi to vga with the kvm switch from both my computer and wife's work computer. I want the small monitor (VGA) as second monitor. The vid card only has dvi (which is in use), display port, and hdmi

Oh ok. Does it have dvi? A hdmi to dvi converter would be better. For hdmi or display port to go to vga pretty sure you need to buy a converter box.

The monitor only has VGA like I specified earlier. And yes I know the converter is messing things up cause it doesn't work. Hence why I tried to install the second vid card

So it stops the HD6770 or the x1300 or both? Its been a while since I've put in two seperate video cards in one machine that wasn't SLI or Crossfire. Last time i did that i had a Nvidia GF 5700 AGP and a Geforece 440 MX PCI and was running XP and didn't have any issues. But even though running two PCIe video cards shouldn't cause this issue unless your motherbaord can't handle it.

The motherboard has 3 vid card slots. It stops 6770 to only run default and x1300 shows up as generic video card, not full.

May want to try download the drivers for the x1300 on AMD's website. You want to run the file so that it extracts the drivers and what not but don't run the install past that. Then go into the Device manager and update the driver and browse to the ATI/AMD folder in the C:\ drive. It may be acting up the way it is because there are no drivers for it and it sets everything to the lowest basic setting. Plus you can run dual monitors off a card that has no drivers.

Why would it interfere with my 6770?

Yea it may try to install an older version of the control center or it may not even install at all (Since the 6770 has a new version of it) I've never done a dual video card setup with a new card and a card 5-6 years old that both use PCIe. I'm usually dealing with Onboard w PCIe or PCIe with PCI or PCIe SLI setup's

I can't even access catalyst control center. Windows says there is something wrong wit my 6770 when there is nothing wrong wit it

This happens when you have both video cards installed right? Sounds like windows is just having issues with the two videos cards. Its one of those things where if i was there i could probably have it up and running in like 10 minutes but trying to get it to work over a forum may take many replies lol
