I have been having this problem for a few weeks now. My usb devices will all just randomly stop working and I can do nothing on the pc. The only way to get it working again, is rebooting it. The time of when this starts happening varies anywhere from 1hr, to even 4hrs or later. I updated the BIOS, replaced my mouse (I thought it was the mouse), got a new power supply, disabled the USB suspend in power savings... I feel like I have tried everything. I am thinking that it could have something to do with the motherboard, and thinking of just buying a new pc in about two months, if this current one can last me this long. I have an HP p6310y that is about three years old now. I heard that the mobo in this model can be faulty as well...

Solution
Just make sure the one you buy is mains-powered and is actually supplied with a mains adapter (some mains-powered hubs come without a mains adapter, then you have hunt one down that's got a compatible jack-plug and is the correct output voltage).
Have you thought of buying a mains-powered USB hub? It may not fix the problem but it's worth a try, the hub will still come in handy for your next PC if you need to have a lot of USB devices connected at the same time, especially things like USB-powered external hard drives.

I have been thinking of buying a USB hub, though I am going to wait until I actually get back to working again. I just came from a trip from England last Tuesday, so I am looking into probably getting paid within two weeks (I get paid biweekly).
