Hey,

I recently bought a new case ( Corsair Carbide air 540 ) and also a new graphics card ( MSI GTX 670 ) and both should be arriving tomorrow (tomorrow), when i plan to install everything into the new case. I have a Phanteks PH-TC14CS CPU Cooler lying around that i had previously installed months ago, however when i last had i problem with my pc, i purchased a new motherboard and so i only installed the stock Intel cooler. My problem is that i have high profile ram (corsair vengeance 16gb ) and dont really want to take the heat spreaders off. The way i installed it last time was that i only had the top fan on the heatsink, that way there was lots of clearance between it and the ram. But i ask, is it safe for me to do this?, only have one fan on the dual fan cpu cooler? obviously i wont get a the best temperatures from this method, however i only ask for it to be safe and not at risk from over-heating.

Please bare in mind; I will have a much better case for airflow and cooling in general compared to my last one, and will be using alot more fans in the case.

I`m quite worried about the thermal compound and not spreading properly. I ve seen a couple of methods, such as the tutorial on a sticky post right at the moment which uses a 'line' technique, where i have also seen a dot in the middle of the cpu, and also 5 dots around it. Whats the best way for me to make sure i apply it properly? I have spent alot of money upgrading this past week and all i want to do is make sure that i don't break any parts.

So shall i stick with my current stock cooler?
or install something that i payed £60 for.....

Thanks Again.
(sorry for the early post, i accidentally posted it half way through typing)

If your question is what's in the title then, yes, you'll be fine.

As long as your room isn't a desert, and you don't OC. Yes it should be fine. And you'll have just enough airflow because that case come along with 2 case fans already.

Its going to be more than fine. If you unsure though you can set everything up, download a program that shows the system temps (like Speecy) and see for your self so you will have no doubts about it and learn something more about your PC.

Any tips for the thermal compound? I`m still a little bit worried about messing it up!
Thanks Alot!

Try to achieve a credit card thickness, equally distributed and when you put the Cooler on better be sure about it and dont try to re-move it again.
You can watch a guide on youtube to see more detailed how the process goes.

You have all brand new parts, right? That cpu cooler will have a thermal compound applied already. Don't touch that, just directly install then you're good to go.

No, i`m upgrading the case and graphics card, that is all and then moving all my parts that i`m using right now into the new case that comes tomorrow with the new graphics card.
So i have already used this cooler a while ago, so i will have to re-apply all the thermal compound.

Ah ok, so last time i applied it, i just put a drop in the centre, but i dont think i spread it across the cpu with the actual cooler like i should have.
So this time i shall, put how many drops on the cpu? 1, 2, 5? and then spread it around with something like a debit card? ( i saw that option somewhere, but dont know whether its a good one).
Thanks alot!

Well, drops aren't a precise unit to count it :p
Just put a some, spread it over , if it wasn't enough add some more till its equally spread and have the credit card as an example for its thickness. Yes , debit-credit card gets the job done. Speaking from personal experience.
