Hey.

Last week I replaced my stock intel HS with an Arctic Cooling alpine 11. My temps and noise improved greatly and I was pleased.

A few days ago I was replacing my old PSU and everything went fine, booted up, ran prime95 and everything seemed normal.

Then I noticed a high pitched sound coming from inside the case. It sounds like a mix of a really high pitched GPU fan and slight vibration.

I opened my case and noticed that its coming from the CPU. When I put my fingers around my cpu heatsink and apply very very light pressure (I barely need to touch it) on both sides of it the sound goes away completely.

What could this be? The fan is brand new.

it is definitely lose rubber mounts you could possibly use those small small rubber bands that you usually in braces to fill the gap to make a fighter grip other than that i would send it back and see if getting a new one helps.

on the heatsink (http://www.frostytech.com/articleimages/201001/ACalpine11pro_base.jpg) those 4 corners are places where they click into your motherboard and if there is a gap between them it can cause a rumbling noise like your describing so using Orthodontic rubber bands can fill the gap stopping the noise you can use anything as long as its non conductive because its touching your motherboard and you dont want to short any parts out.
