Well in that case, if you were to use software that would tax the CPU heavily, the 2nd laptop...

The 7730 will struggle to play games at 1080p and the 8850 is over 30% stronger:http://www.game-debate.com/gpu/index.php?gid=1484&gid2=863&compare=radeon-hd-8850m-2gb-gddr5-vs-radeon-hd-7730m
But the 2nd Laptop does have a Quad and games are starting to take full advantage of quad-core systems.
It`s a tough call but I would go with the 1st one. Yes it only has 2 cores but the Hyper-threading will help in games, the GPU is stronger and with that 720p resolution you will have a easier time maxing games out.

Well in that case, if you were to use software that would tax the CPU heavily, the 2nd laptop will be a better choice. The larger resolution will also help with coding (1366x768 is absolute garbage at a productivity level)
It will be quite a bit weaker at gaming but it`s up to you.
