I recently installed a Sabretooth 9900fx R2.0 and everything's working fine except for the audio. According to the Sound device manager there's nothing plugged in (and there is), the only devices that are allowed to set as default are two SPDIF (optical). I already try downloading the latest driver and didn't work. I'll appreciate any suggestions on the matter.

check that the case front panel audio header on the right port on the motherboard. check what slot your video card and any other card are in. on asus mb some of the slots and onboard devices share irq and you can turn them off if a wifi or video card are in the wrong slot. make sure your mb bios is updated and try the newest 2.71 drivers.

I already tried downloading the latest audio drivers. The only two cards I have on my board are video and wireless and there are in the correct slots... The front panel is also connected to the board because it is listed in the Sound Devices list, but it says 'Not Plugged in', as well as the Speakers.

I'm trying to uninstall the NVIDIA audio driver but as soon as I restart my PC, windows re-install it right away

Ok, so I uninstalled both Nvidia Virtual Audio and Nvidia HD Audio Driver and the problem persists...

In device manager - are there any errors displayed next to the Realtek entry? If not, it may be a faulty chipset. I would remove the board from the PC case and test it there - just in case something is shorting out. That wil eliminate any front panel shorts from the mix as well.

Other than that, was this a fresh install of the operating system or one that has been carried over from a previous build?

Hi raja@asus, in device manager the only thing it says is 'Not Plugged In' on all devices except the Digital Audio SPDIF.

This is a new build, everything is new except power supply and hdd.

I will try removing the board from the case and will let you know what happened.

thanks

That appears to be the sound options via control panel and not device manager? I was wondering if there were any flags against the device or driver problems reported.

If there are no issues reported, what happens if you right click on the S.PDIF entry and disbale it then set one of the others to default? If still no jacks picked up it's either drivers or a hardware issue. The latter will be an RMA situation. The former is unlikely as we'd have more cases like yours on the forums.

Try the newest Intel(R) Management Engine Interface drivers or chipset drivers for your motherboard and then restart it worked for me. Although my problem was similar not the same installing the newest chipset drivers may have an effect
