My DVD burner and one of my HDDs 'disappear' in Windows randomly and I have no idea what is causing it. A simple reboot won't do anything but clearing the CMOS seems to work for a couple days.

System specs:

MSI P43-C51 motherboard
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9505 Yorkfield 2.83GHz @ 400MHz
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus
Corsair XMS3 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM
HIS Radeon HD 6950
Western Digital WD VelociRaptor RFHWD3000HLFS 300GB HDD
Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST31500341AS 1.5TB HDD
Samsung EcoGreen F4 ST2000DL004 2TB HDD
Misc Seagate 250GB HDD (can't remember model...)
Samsung SH-S223Q DVD Burner
Cooler Master RC690 Tower
Cooler Master 650W PSU
Windows 7 Ultimate x64

Originally, just the DVD burner would disappear. This started happening a little over a year ago when I was running an MSI P45 Platinum MB and didn't have the Velociraptor or the 2TB Samsung HDD installed. I disconnected the burner and didn't have any issues. I recently reconnected the burner and updated firmware. It lasted about a day then the burner and the Samsung HDD went missing. I again disconnected the burner and cleared the CMOS, after a few days the Samsung HDD went again. I keep clearing but it only lasts about a day before it goes AWOL. The burner is still disconnected.

Anyone have any ideas on this one?

Solution
air temp is a false error. all it saying is the drive is running without any airflow over it. easy fix..add a fan. on the drives if there old check to see if there any firmware updates for them. just keep an eye out on the spin up retries if they grow.
try a new cable and update your mb chipset drivers.

All SATA drives, I've tried different cables with all of the drives and the issue still persists. I've been leaning towards a power issue myself. I'm running out of space again and I'm thinking about swapping the 250GB Seagate for a 3TB Seagate. Would an 850W PSU be sufficient for this setup?

Here's a new one. The drive just dissapeared on me but showed up after a standard reboot without clearing the CMOS, it's never done that before.

Nope, I'm a bit out of the loop when it comes to the PC scene anymore. I'll try it right now. Thank you for the help.

All of the drives check out (including the disappearing 2TB) except the 1.5TB:

I've been watching video files on this drive so it has been in continuous use for the past few hours, could this cause the increase in temperature?

ETA: I am getting this on the 2TB drive:

Ok, that drive might be sitting a little too high in the case to catch the flow from the front fan. It has a little age so I'll keep my eye on it.

The 2TB does have a new cable but I believe I have another new one sitting around that I could try with it. Should I worry about the Interface CRC Error Count on this one or could it still just be a power issue?

ETA: Just saw your edit, I'll try that now as well...

Posted a reply on here last night but I guess it didn't work from my phone!

No firmware updates available for any of the drives. I did update the BIOS and the chipset drivers. I reconnected the DVD burner just for good measure, that seems to trigger the issue a little faster. I checked the chipset cooler and it seems to be fine.

Everything is still present today, no missing drives yet. I'll update in a few days or if anything changes.

Thank you for your help!
