G'day all,
Long time viewer, first time poster..
I'm from Australia, and the supply for great graphics cards seem to be a lot harder to find. I'm looking to complete my new system I'm building which is:

Asrock Z77 extreme4 m/board
i5 3570k
G.Skill 8gb Ram
120Gb SSD

Prices are a bit higher here based on what I've seen from the US.. With a Gigabyte GTX760oc card costing around $335 AUD and the Gigabyte GTX770 cards costing $430+AUD ... Any suggestions would be great...

Solution

Well, what are you looking to spend? You've said what the cards cost but you haven't said how deep your pockets are. LOL

I can tell you that the HD 7950 is far less than $330AUD, Skycomp has it for $289 which is considerably less than any of the GTX 760s that they carry.

If you are willing to spend up to $460, then I would say that you can't go wrong crossfiring a couple of HD 7870s...

What is the price of an AMD Radeon HD 7950 where you live? Also, the price of the gtx 770 is pretty much in line with what it is in the US, which is usually $400-410 USD. The gtx 770 would complement your system much better than the gtx 760.

I'm not ruling out running Sli with 2 slightly smaller cards. As a bit of a guide, I'll be looking to run Battlefield 4 in pretty high (near max) settings ... Any suggestions?

If you'd rather stay on the low side of $400, then two Radeon HD 7850s would be the best option:

It's really looking like the Radeons have the upper hand in the price/performance metric over the GeForces, mind you, that's nothing new at all. I paid approximately $320 for my two Radeon HD 7870XTs (it was an absurd $100 off each card plus mail-in-rebate sale) and together they have the power to take down a $1000 GTX Titan. I would say that those two routes would be your best bet.

Splendid
Grab yourself a 770, would go really well with your new system, will play anything you throw at it and will last you awhile.
Sometimes I get my cards from ebay as they are cheaper than getting them locally here in OZ. You could also use static ice to search for the best prices locally.

Ok cool.. Even more to think about..

I guess it does come down to the dollars and bang for buck. I'm on a bit of a budget and less is best.. But in saying that, I probably wouldn't want to spend any more than say $420 ...
I've always been a nvidia fan.. But maybe it's time for a change.. I must admit, I don't know a great deal about non-nvidia cards.
I've also never ran dual cards of any format, so would be curious as to how easy or user friendly it would be.

I do admit the dual cards does interest me as to how it works..

What are people's thoughts on this? What would the nvidia equivilant be to running crossfired 7850's or 7870's??

I run two HD 7970s and I love em. I previously ran two HD 4780s. What they do is alternate the frames from one card to the other. The nVidia version is called SLI and the ATi(AMD) version is called Crossfire. GeForce and Radeon cards both do the exact same thing and they've both been in business a long time (ATi dates back to the 80s).
