I´m a PS3 gamer, and going to buy an alienware x51 (yeah it´s overpriced and blablabla,I need a small computer and it´s the best for the specs that it has, I tried building a PC , but it gets too big and with the same specs witha better graphics card costs more $500 than the alienware) and I have an sony bravia 1080p 32´ and I was wondering if I should buy a monitor for the pc or just use the tv( I already use it in my shitty pc)my problem is, I think the monitors are just too small( why does everybody uses this small monitors they could buy a big 1080p tv), , and if I ever consider buying three monitors, I preffer a 46´or 52´ tv, is my opinion right or should I dump the TV and get a monitor even if its 24´? (I really like my TV and dont think I need better quality)

Using a TV as a monitor is fine, but optimum size depends a lot on how far away you sit from the screen.

T.V's are bad for pc gaming because of extremely poor response time, ghosting, and imput lag, problems most of which are eliminated by a monitor, as for alienware, I owned an x51 and they are ok, but trust me when I say you can make something very small with better specs for cheaper, contact me if you want to chat over this, I might be able to give you some options.

We use small monitors because TVs suck, however that depends on what you're playing. Coming from an FPS gamer, the input latency is just dreadful across all TVs including the "faster" ones. Since you're a console gamer though you wouldn't really notice the difference but for someone like me it just completely disconnects me from a game.

I moved my computer into the living room for the last week to play racing games on my new G27 set. Grid, Grid2, Dirt3, Dirt showdown, rFactor2, F1 2012, FO3, BOP etc...In every game it was evident how the feedback from the wheels kicked in before I saw the car hit a bump or corner, the delay from steering was more than noticeable to. I even tried FPS gaming on it which confirmed just what a bad idea that was. Hearing shots before you see people is no joke. Everything was a nightmare....but not to my sister, or my friends and family that tried playing. Not surprising at all but it jut goes to show how sensitive you can become to it. Especially shifting from CRTs to LCDs. It's all reasonably fair on consoles so it doesn't matter, everyone has slow TVs so the latency is effectively neutralized but it's not difficult to see who's hooked up to a monitor.

It all comes down to preference. Most people happily play and never notice the effects. TVs are pretty immersive and I would buy one in a heartbeat if I could stand gaming on it. Just don't pretend latency and refresh rates don't exist. If you play enough high speed gaming even a 10ms visual delay becomes a pain to deal with but there sure are plenty of non-believers out there...

I´m happy to play with a TV, I have never seen someone playing with three monitors live, and today my opinion is that the most thing that matters is that is 1080p and it´s BIG.
arent the new TVs from samsung with higher Hz good for gaming?

TVs with high refresh rates often only handle that internally (interpolating frames rather than accepting a higher data rate for the input signal), and that can aggravate input lag.
