430W PSU enough?

Here's the short question: Will a 430W Corsair PSU (CX430) be sufficient to run some of the low to mid-range Tom's suggested GPUs, such as the 7770, 7790, 7850, or 650 Ti Boost?

Now I know some folks have posted on this before... and the general consensus I read (at least for the 7770 and 7790) were that a 430W was sufficient.

However, I have quite a few components in my system, and I wanted to make sure I wasn't over-taxing my PSU:

Motherboard: ASRock H77 Pro4-M
CPU: i5-3470
RAM: 8 GB DDR3

3 hard drives:
-120 GB Samsung SSD
-1TB Western Digital HDD
-256GB laptop hard drive

2 optical drives:
-DVD writer w/ lightscribe
-Bluray writer

Not that this probably matters, but I also have two monitors hooked up to my system.

What do you all think? Is the 430W PSU sufficient for these GPUs? Even with 3 hard drives and 2 optical drives? I just don't want to damage anything. I built this PC last February... and its my first build. I've been using intel's integrated graphics, but I'm ready to step it up.

Thanks!

The 7770 & 7790 should be fine, not the other two. That PSU has 28a on the +12v rail and shpould ber enough for at least the 7770 and maybe the 7790. Not sure of the other one and definiately not for the GTX 650Ti.

Er, he will be fine with that PSU. The GTX 650Ti is supposed to draw no more than 24 amps on the +12v rail (and that psu has 28A), but I've been reading that it actually draws less than that. The 7850 requires even less power.

And again, don't worry so much about the 430W being 20W lower than the 450W requirement. That's nvidia's worst case scenario PSU requirement (if you were buying a cheap no-name brand, which you are not).

That's not a lot of headroom on the rail and you could have problems. I had a Video card where the PSU met the requirements including the minimum on the rail ( 18a ) and I got into a game that had some rather intensive graphics at one point and things did not go well and didn't until I replaced the PSU with one with plenty on the rail and overkill as far as the wattage went. I usually recommend plenty of headroom on the rail for that reason, and you have plenty for future upgrades.

You guys rock... thanks for the recommendations. That's really helpful and I learned something today. Thanks.

One more question... and I know this one is probably impossible to know for sure...

Do you think the 7790s will drop much in price before the holidays once the next-gen consoles hit the market? I was wondering if it would be worthwhile to wait a month or two.... but Amazon has a decent deal on the Asus 7790... with a $20 rebate makes it $110 and you get a free game with it. I don't really need the graphics card right away, however.

Any body want to make a guess? :)

Thanks!

Very interesting, thanks!

That's a big drop, not to mention you get a FREE game. We are in the 4t Quarter and the holiday shopping season on the horizon, could be something coming, but I don't know what if anything. Just a thought.

When you say "something coming", I assume you mean they might release a new GPU? Besides their "new" (old) R7 260X? If so, I can't imagine the price on the 7790 would get any lower? What are your thoughts?

Thanks!

Like I said, it was just a thought. I haven't really heard of anything coming either from AMD or Nvidia in the quarter. I have been seeing stuff on the R7 260X, but it's just mostly test stuff. That thing may be something that was rebranded, with a little tweaking. Right now you are getting into the prime season for new releases of stuff ( gaming consoles anyone? ) I was thinking that Intel had another processor coming this quarter, but it may been moved to next year.
