its my 2nd computer so i have no interest in buying a new psu so yeah, thats not advice i'm looking for!

its a 6 year old hp prebuilt. model # is m9300z if that helps. specs :

amd phenom 8450 processor
vista 64 bit
4 gigs ddr2
300 watt psu (the 350 watt that came with it burnt out after running a 9800gt for 4 years.)
radeon 4350

the cpu ran diablo 3 alright when i had the 9800 gt in there on medium settings and i'm looking for similar results. i'm trying to get my room mate to play diablo with me so yeah...

right now i'm deciding between the ddr5 gt 640 and the hd 7750. maybe the ddr5 630 or the 6670 if i feel like being totally cheap. Am i missing any other obvious low power cards that could pump out some decent gfx for diablo 3 and if not, which brings the most bang for the buck?

You'll be better off with a 7750 or a 7770. But AMD is about to release a new line of GPUs. The entry level card is called the R7 250, starting at $89. In my opinion, it's always better to be on a newer platform.

cool. the 49 maximum watt usage on the 640 seems so sexy on a tiny psu. i guess not since the 7750 uses 61 max? but yeah, thanks for the response.

You're going to need a new PSU. Nothing will run properly on a 300W that is worth buying.

you're saying a gt 640 and a radeon 7750 aren't worth buying? or they won't run properly on a 300 watt psu? or both?

He probably means both... But it really wouldn't be a bad idea to get a better PSU if your budget will allow it.
