Hi,
So I'm a first time builder looking for a good gpu. My first instinct was nvidia but then I heard amd might be better. So my main goal is to run bf4 on ultra at around 70 fps (1080p). I don't want a super expensive gpu. Hopefully under $450. Is the gigabite 770 4gb good enough? ($430) What are the other options. I know amd is coming out with the r9 series but I'm hesitant towards amd. Nvidia makes everything so easy. Thoughts?

All replies are appreciated!
Thanks,
J.D.

I would say you at least wait till the new Amd cards get reviewed. If they price their cards right, Nvidia will be forced to lower their prices, resulting in more options for your budget.

Teddy is right about pricing, but if you are unwilling to wait that card will definitely destroy bf4 (I have the 2 GB version and it is awesome).

Well, something is definitely afoot because newegg has a deal now that is almost as good as the one that NCIX had 2 weeks ago. You want to stay under $450? How about the power of a GTX Titan for $360 (-$30 mail-in-rebate)? Just make sure that you have a multi-GPU motherboard and drop in two of these beauties:

This is exactly what I have so I know exactly what I'm talking about. This is almost as good a deal as I got and although I wasn't really looking to buy, when I saw it, I bought 2 of them immediately. These are Radeon HD 7870XT's which should be called HD 7930s because they use the HD 79xx series GPU. Go look at a review of 2 HD 7870's in crossfire and add 5-10% to their score. You'll find yourself above the nVidia GTX Titan which costs $1000. A platform for these cards won't be expensive either. About $185:
CPU: AMD FX-6300 - $120

Mobo: ASRock 970 Pro3 - $65

Now, you CAN get the FX-6300 for $110 from Amazon but I prefer to buy core PC components from real vendors like newegg, NCIX, Tiger Direct and Canada Computers.

With these components as your platform base, you will have a gaming monster no matter what. Just make sure you have at least a 750W brand-name PSU.

Yea I wanna stay with intel/nvidia. I find it hard to believe that is as good as a Titan. I don't want amd really.

What frames are you getting on bf4 (if you have it).

BF4 is weird, I range from 60+ to dips of like 15. I feel like either the beta is poorly optimized and/or drivers are not there yet or maybe I am just hurting from the 3GB vram rec. Either way, you will be covered and happy if you get a 770 4GB card. And I cannot recommend the windforce enough. It is quiet and awesome.

With BF3 I never go below 80fps and usually sit above 100. I never dip below 30 fps (and usually stay much higher than that) with crysis 3 completely maxed out if that tells you anything.
