Which would be better in terms of Performance/Price?

Radeon HD 7870 Sapphire 2GB 1000Mhz clock rate for $200

OR

Radeon HD 7950 PowerColor 3GB 800Mhz for $210

Specifically I want to know if 200Mhz would make a difference in gaming.

EDIT: I will be playing mainly RTS games, such as Starcraft 2 and Total War games. Also Civ 5.

Absolutely not, the 7950 is just inherently a faster card, a moderate overclock on the 7950 can quite easily bring it to 7970 performance standards.

Yeah at those prices you had better get the 7950. No reason not to. Performs better, has much higher overclocking headroom and it has more VRAM.

Get it, don't even think about grabbing that 7870.

It's not that simple I'm afraid. Now that newegg has pulled "an NCIX" and offered the HD 7870XT (a.k.a. HD 7930) for $180 (-$30), that HD 7950 doesn't look so stellar anymore. This is why my box has 2 7870XTs in it. I like having the power of a GTX Titan for less than $350. LOL
