Nope. It puts your PC in a low power state to keep most things saved to the RAM. This means a faster start when you click the mouse or something else. I'll get you a link to Windows.

^True fact. I still find sleep useful if I'm leaving it for 5 - 10 mins (and don't want to bother closing everything down etc).
 

That would be an example of when I would simply leave it on.

Haha, yeah I'm one of those save power kind of people. Well, I try to anyway. Power is a little bit expensive for me, during winter we have heating etc + PC's and anything else you might need, but we hardly pay anything during summer, which we are entering now. (I live in New Zealand.)
