I built this box a couple of years ago, hoping it would last a while. A while seems to be up, but I'm hoping I can put off building a totally new system for a while. Here's what I've got, all stock, air-cooled and nothing fancy:

ASUS M4A79XTD EVO AM3 AMD 790X
AMD Phenom II X4 925 Deneb 2.8GHz Socket AM3 95W Quad-Core Processor
XFX HD-685X-ZNDC Radeon HD 6850 1GB
8GB RAM consisting of Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 1x4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 (PC3 12800) and G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
OCZ 128GB Agility 3SSD for boot, most programs
750GB Hitachi for storage and secondary programs
CORSAIR TX Series CMPSU-650TX 650W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PSU. Currently running Win7 Ultimate.

This machine has served me well through BF:BC2 and BF3. The BF4 beta is jerky, but playable. Wondering if I can OC or tweak a bit, or if I'm effectively at the end of life for some of this hardware. The mobo was an open-box steal, and I didn't research AM3+ at the time; seems like that may be the achille's heel in my setup.

Thanks for any opinions.

I honestly think it's time to upgrade.I would upgrade the cpu to FX 8320/ 8350 and the gpu maybe a gtx 760 or R7950 that should serve you well for the next two years imo.
