I have had a new laptop for 2 months and have somehow lost the ability to connect to a secure (WPA) network. Previously it has worked fine everywhere but for some reason it doesn't seem to be able to connect to any secure network and I'm stumped. I have disabled security at home and the wireless connects fine but with security on or at UNI it assigns itself a 169.X.X.X addres and obviously doesn't do anything.

I have tried reinstalling the drivers, getting new drivers, restting the ip stack (netsh int ip reset reset.log), resetting the winsock stack (netsh winsock reset), reinstalling client ipv4, reinstalling client ipv6. I'm not sure what is going on here as it seems all my security options are enabled when I view the adapter settings and the password is correct as I redid my pc wireless settings at home using the same details I put into the laptop when I reinstalled the adpater. Also yes it is setup to obtain a dhcp lease and not a static address.

Any ideas before I go and reset the whole laptop (something I really don't want to do) would be greatly appreciated.

Laptop is a Sony Vaio SVE14A26CGH. Given I can connect to an unsecured network it seems the adapter works fine but something is awry or missing with connecting to a secure network and it "times out" and gives itself a 169.X.X.X address.

Try running the System File Checker utility. You may have a corrupt system file that is preventing the connection.
