Can I safely overclock my laptop GPU (GTX 765m)?

So I'm getting an MSI GS 70 in the mail soon, and the GTX 765m that comes with it isnt really as powerful as I'd like it to be. To remedy this issue, I thought I'd read up on overclocking laptop GPU's but I'm still a bit hazy on the safety aspect.

THE QUESTIONS:
-If I get a good laptop cooler, (eg. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834992913), can I safely overclock the 765m?
-To what extent can I overclock it?
-How do I test how much I can overclock it before instability occurs?
-Is heat the only issue to overclocking mobile graphics cards, or could the GPU draw too much power from the block and shut my computer down?

Solution
Do not overclock it, overclocking laptop GPU's will give you at best a 5% performance increase which is practicly nothing.

The risks here involving are too high to even get started, if you fry the GPU its done and laptops always get allot hotter then a normal PC. While overclocking you also have a high chance of not only destroying the GPU but also other components near it.

Repairing this will cost you hundreds, why? well because laptop parts are available per model.
The heat will also go to your processor and could damage that as well.

Eventually for what? we are talking about 2fps, what is recommended is playing a lower resolution then HD because a laptop screen is smaller anyways so the diffrence between HD and 1300res. is not...

Ofc. HD is nicer, that cooler will max out your GPU's performance.

When the GPU gets hotter, laptops will start clocking lower to reduce heat, this results also in FPS drops.

So the key here is to try to use max performance of your GPU by using for example that laptop cooler your showing here.

That is where the real gaine is!

Hope ive answered your question.

As long as you overclock without overvolting, and keep an eye on the temperature, there shouldn't be any problem. I use MSI Afterburner on my Asus G75vw with a GTX 670m, and through experimentation I have managed to increase the performance by 20-30% depending on the game. For example: I overclocked the GPU while I was playing the secret world, and surprisingly went from a framecount of 20 up to almost 30. The temperature has never topped 83 degrees, but then again, the G75vw has some extreme cooling.

Not sure if this was resolved already, I have a clevo p151sm1 chassis with a 765m several months ago, before you posted on this forum. The The laptop chassis is made with 2 dedicated cooling solutions for the i7 and the 765m separately and fans controlled separately, I have a strong feeling the MSI GS 70 has a similar setup in terms of cooling solutions. In any case my stock 765m ran at 60C in highest demand 100% activity with GPU boost on. I downloaded MSI afterburner and tinkered, minding the temps and my max safety zone overclock is +90 on the clock and +550 on the memory. Max temperature on these settings I have reached is 68C on OEM paste, still not AS5'd it. My safety zone is to not go over 70C. Could easily have gone to +110/+700 and I did try this, but I think the temps were around 75/77, still safe but not for my liking.

Bottom line to OP or anyone else who wants to overclock - if the cooling solution can take it and it is within your comfort zone go ahead, know what is a safe temperature and what isnt, and dont take the piss.
