I was originally going to get a new console but I've thought about it and I think I'd just like to get a better GPU for my computer as it will be more powerful and cheaper than the consoles anyway!

I have a 7850 at the moment and want to spend around 350-400 pounds on this new GPU, what would you recommend?

I have an i5 CPU
550w PSU
8gb Ram.

Cheers!

Well actually non! your looking at 1000 dollars in costs getting 2 x 770 / 780 cards.

DragonChase, what're you talking about?

A single GTX770 can handle BF4 on Ultra at 1080p, having at the very least 50FPS.

Your "2x770/780 cards" would get over 100FPS on Ultra, what's the point?

EDIT: By very least I mean under the worst conditions possible, with enormous explosions all occurring at the same time.

Alright, the GTX 770 4GB also known as the FTW Version is the best answer. But, if your not gaming on more than one monitor (Nvidia Surround), then just go with the regular 770 as there would be no need for the extra VRAM. I highly recommend this card. I'd go with the EVGA Card not just because of the looks, but also because of EVGA's awesome support.

Sorry your right! phrased it not too well, i ment that having 2 x 770 would be optimal and no it wont give you 100 FPS.

How can you speak about BTF4 if its not even out yet, its in beta so its not yet ready to talk about that one.

Plus it still runs on the old engine, i never found btf3 to be that heavy on the system.

Crysis 3 on the otherhand is about 30fps on 4K, considering the fact that games get heavier and heavier, having a dual set-up would be the way to go for a couple of years.

DragonChase, BF4 doesn't run on the old engine.

BF4 runs on Frostbite 3, whereas BF3 runs on Frostbite 2.

The game is in beta, which is unoptimized, and I'm on a GTX760 and achieving over 45FPS on Ultra, how would a higher-end card get worse performance than I am getting?

And 2x770 is an OVERKILL for 1080p on a single monitor, which is most likely 60Hz. You're literally just wasting money, because a single card would easily reach the 60FPS limit imposed by the monitor on 99% of the games out there, exception being Crysis 3 and possibly BF4 by a really small margin.

So you all agree the 770 is the best for my price range? It'll definitely handle all the latest games on ultra?

What are these new graphics cards coming out from AMD meant to be like?

Better than the 770?

Cheers for the help.

Yeah keep in mind BF3 is still in Beta. My single 660ti runs 40fps on Ultra 3 Monitors (It overclocks very well). I'm adding a second 660ti, so I can record without lag (I can record without lag on Medium). A single 660ti should be fine for a single monitor for BF4, but considering upgrading soon. I'm worried my 660ti's in SLI may not even be enough D:

I was speaking futurewise, dont all graphics improve overtime? Anyways i didnt know out the frostbite part, i dont think BTF4 is so spectaculair but thats me :p.

Ontopic: Ya its the 770 as best pick at the moment, and also what the person said a post below whom ive quoted.

I would also recommend waiting to check out AMD's new GPU's, wait a week or so.

Not worth the price diffrence, but they should become cheaper once AMD releases its new GPU's, still recommended in any situation to wait a week or 2.
