hi can someone help me in getting the most out of my CPU.. i was able to get it to 3.5GHz by changing the FSB to 235 but anything higher than that i would get BSOD.. im kinda new in overclocking so i didnt change anything on the voltage and stuff and i left it to auto.

thanks in advance for the help..

i got ASUS M5A78L-M LX3 for MOBO, GTX660 OC, 1TB western digital HDD, and i forgot the PSU im using but im sure its 700 watts FSP. is the idea of overclocking it is just changing the FSB and then adjusting the core voltage when you get BSOD?

I used to have an Athlon II x4 620 an I overclocked that to a pretty stable point but when you get to a certain point yes, you do have to give it more voltage and keep in mind your ram is being overclocked at the same time so you may need to lower the ram frequency back to default to keep it stable.

i see... can you tell me how to do that? coz im using 2 8gb kingston RAM 1333... and whenever i go further than 235 i get BSOD right away.. does that mean i need to put a bit more voltage like .25?

It'll be in bios and it's different for every board. First off download software called CPU Z and find out what your clocks are at currently. It'll tell you what speed your memory is currently running at under the memory tab when you open it

i already got that software coz thats what i use to check if the 3.5GHz that i overclocked previously is stable.. what information do i need from CPU-Z to overclock my CPU.. i just want it to be atleast 3.8GHz or 4GHz if possible..

should i just change the FSB to 260 and the voltage to 1.520 and leave the ht link to auto? coz when i tried changing the fsb to anything higher than 235 even if i raise the voltage i get BSOD.. should i disable anything on the bios? coz ive been reading that you need to disable the cool n quiet feature on it but im not sure... and btw thanks for helping me out. :) appreciate it.

i was able to read this thread before. did they got this result when cool n quiet is off and is it stable? coz i didnt read any stability test on that thread. not sure if though if cool n quiet is the reason for my rig to go crash dumping when im changing the FSB to anything higher than 235. what do you think?

hi i tried putting it to 260 on the FSB and then putting the voltage to 1.520v and i was able to boot the computer, but as soon as i did a stress test using intel burn test i would get BSOD. i tried it on my previous OC settings which is just 3.5Ghz and i pass all the test on IBT which is atleast 10 times. im not sure how to make the 3.9Ghz stable coz i thought it would stabilize itself if i add voltage to the vcore with increments of .25 but i still get BSOD even if i reach 1.750. im really at a loss and i dont know which other settings to adjust. please help me. T__T

Chances are the board does have a few power saver features that are causing issues, could be spread spectrum, throttling, and yeah cool n quiet has had it's share of issues in the past. If ya don't mind just throw me the model of ur mobo so i can see what features it has and what your bios looks like.
