Yes since your VGA requires 2 6-pin connectors you will need to plug both in, otherwise it wont power on.

It doesn't matter that it "splices" into another 6-pin connector because if your PSU wouldn't have 2 6-pin connectors if it couldn't power both. Looking your card up i assume its the 7870 2GB, says a minimum of 500w power supply so it should work just fine.
