Hi, I have a windows XP computer, and old one which I have dedicated as a server. I have about 70-80 gigabytes of things on it now, and I would like to upgrade to windows server without moving all the files to and from an external hdd which would take like a year for it. It has 712MB RAM. Is it possible for me to accomplish this? Thanks a lot in advance!:)

There are a couple ways to go about this. In Windows XP you could create a partition and move your files there so when you install Windows Server it will be separated from the rest of the drive. The other option would be during the server setup choose not to format the drive. When you are done installing windows server you should have a folder called windows.old on your C drive and all of your files will be there.

The last one seems best, don't you think? So that I don't have to move between partitions

During setup, does it have a specific option to not format? So it isn't easy to do it wrong?

Yes, when you choose the drive you want to install windows to it will tell you that it has found a previous version of windows there and are you sure you want to proceed. You'll want to choose yes and everything should be left as is.

Edit: It's when you choose no and you will have to actually select the option to format the drive is where you will erase your data.
