I just got a samsung np535u4c-s02ca and it has 4GB onboard and 4GB in a slot.
I ran HWiNFO and I can see that onboard, 4GB is at 800MHz, and the other 4GB that is removable in a slot, says its at 667MHz.

No info for the onboard slot but the removable one is this: M471B5273EB0-CH9

1) Wanted to know if them running at different speeds affects anything whatsover, Shouldn't they be at the same speed?
2) Are they running as a dual channel config?
3) I want to know if down the line, changing the removable 4GB for 8GB for a total of 12GB would work. Would I see a performance boost if I do start using more ram-intensive applications?

Thanks!

76242MB is "the same" 8GB, keep in mind that many OS use part of the RAM for graphics memory. I checked the model of your laptop in the Samsung's web page and seems that the internal RAM is embedded and not installed in a RAM socket as usual.
Hi and welcome to Tom's forum.

1) Both are running to the same speed (lower speed, in this case 667MHz) but the program reads the based frequency for each module.
2) Download CPU-Z and check the "Memory" Tab, you can find there if it's running in dual channel or not.
3) For better performance you should change both, 4GB and 8GB can't run in dual channel. What applications do you use? 8GB are more that enough for commune applications and daily work.

Thank you for your reply saint19.
You may have missed a point of information in the beginning of the post. the first 4GB is on the motherboard and cannot be removed. Not only that, when running HWiNFO it does not detect the on-board memory module, CPU-Z however sees 7642MB on the Memory Tab on Dual Channel, but on SPD, it detects the first 4GB removable stick, and when I select Slot #2, the info is blank.

I currently do not need more than 8GB but I am being future-conscious, and would like to know in advance if its even possible.
