I bought the following components and assembled myself. I did a little bit of auto overclocking with the Asus 4-Way Optimizer. CPU reached 4.6Ghz, but memory topped at 1333 due to back clock settings. Temperatures never got very hot. The computer worked well for two weeks, then got an error in windows which when restarted said it was a memory issue. During that restart, the computer tripped and kept cycling/restarting every 1-7 seconds, without ever showing the BIOS screen. After CMOS clear, can get the computer to start, but DIMM Slot B1 is ABNORMAL and only 24Gb of memory shows. No matter what settings, manual, XMP, or automatic, I cannot get that slot to show. Furthermore, OC tuning now causes the same tripping response and tops out at 4.3Ghz. Asus says I should try cleaning the memory sticks with a clean eraser, to remove oil, and if that doesn't work, send the board back, send the memory back, and then get a new board with compatible memory (my memory is not on the current list, but similar brands/models/sizes are). Should I follow their advice or do something else?

Might try cleaning the contacts on the sticks, but would use rubbing alcohol and a foam swab, an eraser can leave little slivers of the eraser itself, also the foam is better than a QTip as those often leave small pieces of cotton fiber on the contacts....also is the problem with B1 with all sticks, guessing it is, if so might check the socket of the mobo for bent pins which is often a cause of this type problem or for thermal compound on the bottom of the CPU or in the socket
