So I'll be listening to music or gaming and all of a sudden my computer will freeze. I don't have to restart or anything because after like 20 seconds it will un-freeze and I can continue. I can also move my curser around and click on stuff but nothing will load until it unfreezes. It has been doing this since day 1 of putting new hardware and software in. (New CPU new storage and Windows 8.) I thought it was the new CPU but when looking at the task manager when it freezes my hard drive will shoot straight up to 100% and then will go back to around 10%.
This is really frustrating, can anyone help?

Have you thought about a replacement for that HDD?

Bring up performance monitor (you can access it thru task manager) and watch the processes using storage on the storage tab. See if you have thousands of avg processes all accessing the drive.

Oops I'm sorry, I meant I don't have AVG I have Avast. But I still looked anyway and I dont see anything out of the ordinary (except for a lot of 'System' processes)

Well keep an eye on that tab and see if all of a sudden you get a lot of hardfaults or can see heavy drive usage at the same time the poblem occurs.

I've had 2 AMD systems, both with SSD's, exhibit this with AVG2014 installed fresh (not an update over avg2013) and it was avg spawning processes by the thousands.
