Hi

I have been having issues with my pc lately, I woke up one day and turned the computer on and went to make a drink. I came back and found the monitor in power save mode. I tried moving the mouse around to wake it, but this didn't work. I restarted my computer and nothing comes up on the monitor, it just keeps saying entering power save mode. Some more details:

- when I boot up, the fans come on and after a couple of seconds I hear the usual single beep, which googling has told me means that the computer has passed "POST"

- after the beep, the fans stay running, but the screen stays in power save mode. When I push the pc power button the computer instantly shuts off; previous crashes have taught me that this is unusual - normally to shut down this way I have to hold the power button down for a few seconds

- I can't hear any other activity after the single beep on start up (apart from the fans) which indicates that after the post, nothing more is happening. Normally when turning on the pc I can hear hard drive activity etc

- it's not the monitor, have tried another monitor and it still doesn't work, have also tested the monitor on a friends pc and it works fine

- I have tried the usual fixes such as unplugging everything, reseating all the components, and have even tried removing the CMOS battery.

- I tried removing all the ram and turning it on, and got a beeping error code, which leads me to believe the pc is recognising the ram?

I'm at a loss with what else to try, do these issues sound familiar to anyone?

Many thanks!

Edit to add: the pc is barely 2 years old, Alienware aurora r3, i5 2500k, 8gb ram, gtx 580

Hi Alex, I'm yet to be able to test the card. I only know 1 person with a desktop pc and he is out of town now. Unfortunately on board graphics are not available on this motherboard so reseating the graphics card is all I have been able to do. I'm a bit nervous about buying new components as knowing my luck I will get a new graphics card and it will still not work. It's a gtx580 so not cheap or too old, will be miffed if its failed already!

I don't have any spare components unfortunately :(
Was hoping that this might be a common issue as I'm a bit nervous about buying new components before having an idea what the issue is.

Funnily enough the warranty just expired.... *strokes beard*
There aren't any computer repair shops out in these parts so will have to track down a video card to test. More fool me for buying an expensive gaming pc - lesson learnt! 2 years before developing faults is unacceptable!
