So I might be able to get an MSI 7950
(Newegg Link)
for about $150 bucks. I have the CPU mentioned in the title but I'll be next year hopfully to a 4770k or better (I like to edit and record on my PC using software like DXTory)

With my 3 year old -5850 and Phenom II X3- I can somewhat play BF4 beta in low. Its not too bad in terms of lag. I'll just be enjoying it with friends.

I'm a college student so I dont think I'll be able to afford the new R7 or R9 series and from what I hear, a 7950 will be okay.

I was just wondering though, would my CPU bottleneck a 7950? Should I just wait and see if a Christmas deal comes out for a R9 w/ BF4?

Also, is the MSI 7950 good?

Thanks for responses!

Not really, but hey if you're getting that card for $150 go for it. As the proud owner of two 5870s I can tell you that it's often my CPU that holds things back. It helps to overclock your CPU of course (especially if you can unlock the fourth core) but in generally you won't always see the kind of performance jump you might expect going from a 5850 to a 7950. If you turn down CPU intensive options you should be fine. Also realize the game is in beta so hopefully will be faster and more stable after a few patches :D

Of course I plan to upgrade, but busy playing skyrim right now, then will be busy adding crazy mods, so yeah after that :p
