I wasn't sure if this belongs in Graphics Cards or Memory, but it concerns both, respectively.

I have an HD7970 currently installed, and 8GB of DDR3 RAM on the main board. I want to upgrade to the 7990 version that has duel GPUs. Is 8GB enough, or should i go for 16?

My CPU is an i7 - 3770 3.4Ghz.

Do you plan to purchase a second 7970 or buy a 7990?

RAM shouldn't be an issue. If the price is right, I would consider 16 GB especially if you use the PC for other things such as video editing. If not, 8GB is probably fine.

Well It probably would be cheaper to get another 7970 but it would emanate more heat, whereas having duel GPUs on a single card would be less power hungry, I guess.

Unless you can sell your GPU for a decent amount, I would just pick up a second one. Another option is waiting for the new AMD cards.

RAM's not an issue, before deciding though either way, 7990 or going XFire, check your PSU and make sure you have enough power, especially if going XFire
