Good day,

I have a HP dv2020ca laptop. The CPU is AMD Turion 64 dual core processor. It has 1 gb of ram currently and I'm just wondering if its worth it to upgrade it to a 2 gb instead.

Will I see a significant performance increase?

If its just for the web and videos then an extra 1GB will see you an increase in speed, but also software plays a part too, you may have a lot of temporary files. I suggest downloading Ccleaner and giving that a go too :)

It will certainly help, but I'd say don't bother and look for a newer laptop, or if you're on budget look for a faster processor to fit it too.

Thanks for the response.

I will keep this laptop due to not only having sentimental values towards it but the fact that I only use the laptop for browsing the web and watching videos. The motherboard has died 2 times since its purchase in 2006 and it has been replaced by HP's generous warranty.

Sure nothing lasts forever but I will have to see for how long I can enjoy using it...

Short answer, yes. A memory upgrade is usually the cheapest and easiest upgrade you can make for a performance increase. If you're experiencing specific issues, as previously stated, try CCleaner and Defrag your HDD. Even at 2GB you have a small amount of ram so I'd suggest keeping background processes to a minimum.
