Hi I just built a new PC. I connected my new SSD to 1 of my 6 Intel Z87 sata ports and it wasn't detected in my bios. However when I ran windows install I could see it in the choose which partition to install screen, although windows wouldn't let me install. I switched my SSD to 1 of my 2 ASMedia ASM1061 sata ports and everything worked out fine, bios recognized it and windows was able to install. Is the problem with my motherboard? I checked online and it seems Intel Z87 ports are superior to ASMedia ASM1061 ports, although they are both SATA III so this bothers me. Should I try updating my bios? Thanks

Did you start with the latest BIOS? MSI is sort of slow on things like this (getting the BIOS up to date), they shipped a ton of their gaming mobos with the so called 'killer NIC' and it too had problems until they fixed the BIOS, just one of the many reasons I won't build with them, poor QC

So, would suggest BIOS update, while getting that download and install all the latest drivers for your mobo, prob all on the CD were already outdated, and check in with them for additional new updates

No I didn't start with the latest BIOS. What are the odds of bricking my motherboard with a BIOS update? Also, can I just update now, then switch my ssd into the INTEL Z87 or is there more steps than that?
