Need to add a wifi adapter to my desktop because I have no available Ethernet outlet nearby. I have a modem/router through Comcast and I think it is a Wireless Gateway 1 (Model number: TC8305C).

I want one I can plug into the mobo, not a wifi dongle (already have one of those and it's transfer rates are terrible). I use my desktop a great deal and need the wifi adapter to be fast and handle heavy downloads.

I have no idea where to begin in purchasing one and need some help from you glorious toms hardware experts!

Thanks!

Might I suggest using a Powerline adapter (an example is linked below)? This allows you to use a wired connection at each end (one to your router, and the other to your PC), and transmits the data at 100MB/s across your power outlets. It creates a secure connection, and is very stable. I've used one for almost 3 years, and have had no issues with it. They are simple to setup, reliable, give you a fast connection that won't be affected by interference like your wireless connection might be, and you don't have to install anything in your PC. All you do is plug one box in near your router, and the other near your PC, then run a Cat-5 cable to each device, done.

Thanks for the suggestion Skeefers!

The Powerline adapter looks like it would work really well for my situation. Do you have any idea if it is able to get good speeds for online gaming or video/Netflix streaming? If it does, that's probably what I'll go for.
