My home is hard wired with ethernet cable. I have a few ethernet connections that are available. I want to connect my phone to the internet via WiFi to avoid data use charges. Should I plug an extender into one of the available ethernet ports or do I plug a wireless router into an available ethernet port?

Solution

Something like this, basically just an Access Point or AP is required...

Replace your Router with a Wireless one...(make sure it has enough ports to support your existing setup)

That won't work in this situation. Without going into way too much detail, I have had 'experts' fail at having WiFi for the home. Two different experts spent a total of a month and could not deliver reliable Wifi. So now I have a Comcast coming into the house to a modem in the basement and ethernet cabling running all over the place. But I would like to have WiFi in a few rooms - connected to my available ethernet ports.
