looking to upgrade my graphics cards

My current card is an ASUS AMD radeon HD 7870

i dont really know what im looking at when it comes to this kinds of stuff so im coming to you guys.

i have been looking at the new R9_290x

i am looking to future proof and also willing to drop the money but i just need to know if there is a better option.

What's the reason you're upgrading? You should still be getting good performance from your 7870, so a little more info in terms of what you're using it for would help. Is it just that you want the latest and greatest, or are certain games not performing the way you'd like them to?

im just looking to make my PC able to handle any of the newer games that are coming out with high settings with no problem. games like battle field and watch dogs and since i decided to not get a next gen console i figured id put more into the PC

Tom's published a good article about the new R7/R9 GPUs: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-r9-280x-r9-2...

Once these are officially released, we should see some price changes, so you probably want to hold off buying something new unless you have a pressing need.
