Hello Everybody,

I am a first-time PC builder from India. I have been researching on building my own PC, for about a couple of weeks now. I think I have decent technical skills and hope I will be able to get this built. But choosing the parts for the build has been very confusing for me, so far. I have tried answering all questions as per the new build advice template. So, please guide me in choosing the parts...

Approximate Purchase Date: last week of October, 2013.

Budget Range: INR 45,000 to 50,000 (approx. $750 to $850). INR = Indian Rupee.

System Usage from Most to Least Important:
Web Designing / Development:
Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Illustrator, Eclipse IDE, PhoneGap development, Multiple browsers running at the same time with multiple tabs, multiple virtual machines running at the same time.
Home Use:
Watching HD movies, Edit some pictures from my camera, Listening to songs
Gaming:
Age of Empires 2 & 3. That is all I play. Not much of a gamer.

Are you buying a monitor: Yes. Biggest possible monitor that can be accommodated within my budget.

Parts to Upgrade: N/A. Been using a laptop for 7+ years. Never had a desktop. So, I need to buy everything. I need the following parts,

    Processor
CPU Cooler - Is this required for my use-case?
    Motherboard
    RAM
    HDD
Video Card - Is this required for my use-case? i.e. Should I buy a discrete one?
    Power Supply
    Case / Cabinets
    UPS
    Monitor

Do you need to buy OS: No. I will be using Ubuntu and Windows 7 (already have license for the home version)

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: I will be buying the parts in India. The prices here might be different from your location. So, kindly refer to the following links to get an idea of how much stuff cost here in India,
http://www.deltapage.com/list/index.html
http://www.flipkart.com/computers/components
http://www.amazon.in/ (Goto Computers & Accessories --> Components)

Location: Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India

Parts Preferences: No brand preferences. Just that they need to be available in India

Overclocking: Maybe

SLI or Crossfire: Maybe

Your Monitor Resolution: Need to buy one. Preferably 1080p, LED, IPS with HDMI. Currently favoring Dell S2240L from FlipKart

Additional Comments:

  • I want this build to be long lasting. It should hold for atleast another 5 years. My next upgrade will be in 2018 only.

  • I want this to be less power consuming. Don’t want to have electric bill shocks. So, AMD or Intel? I am very confused (see next point).

  • I want this to be value for money. That is why I decided to build one instead of buying a pre-built one or laptop. So, AMD or Intel? I am very confused (see above point too).

  • I would like it to be as much portable as possible. I am living in Chennai right now, but MAY move to other cities soon / later. So, a little portability would help.

And Most Importantly, Why Are You Upgrading: My current HP laptop is more than 5 years old. It has become very slow for my needs.

Thanks

quite the needs
For low power, portability thats Intel. For value for money that's AMD,but looking at the things you'll be doing, and for how long, you'll need a Core i7
i7 - 4770 3.4 GHz -21150 [deltapage]
preferred monitor
Dell S2240L 21.5" -9190 flipkart
H87 motherboard on the cheap
Gigabyte H87M-D3H -7367 flipkart
Dual Channel 8gb RAM
Kingston HyperX DDR3 8 GB -5050 flipkart
Seagate 1 TB (6GB/s) -4150 [deltapage]
Good quality psu
Antec VP450P 450W -3099 flipkart
Fairly compact affordable pc case
Cooler Master N300 -3750 flipkart
Decent UPS with enough grunt to save your work and switch off
APC 600 VA -2100 [deltapage]

TOTAL = 55,856

The integrated graphics in the haswell processor should suffice for light gaming.
No need for a custom cpu cooler
There is no budget for a proper professional vidoe card.
You can find most of these components cheaper or on sale if you hunt abit on physical malls and meet your 50k budget.
