Hello,

I have been thinking about purchasing another GTX 660 to run in dual SLI. Before I purchased another card I was hoping for some definitive answers as I have found a lot of conflicting information.

First off, I have a pretty weak CPU, the FX-6100, currently overclocked to 4.0ghz.

Secondly, my motherboard is the Asus M5A99X Evo r2.0. With dual cards I believe it turns the PCIe 2.0 16x into 8x.

PSU- OCZ ModXStream 700w

I plan on upgrading my CPU soon, but in it's current state can it handle the two cards; can my motherboard handle the two cards?

Thanks for your time,
Chris

You should easily be able to push that cooler harder. expect ~4.2-4.3GHz, as long as the temps stay under 60C. As for the 8350, I would never recommend that processor to anyone. Why? Because you can overclock the 8320 to the same performance levels with your eyes closed, for $40 cheaper.

motherboard, cpu and psu should be able to handle it. The motherboard is sli capable according to the manufacturer website. I have the same psu and i ran sli 660s for a long time with an i5, so you wont have any power concerns. i also dont see any reason the cpu wouldn't be able to handle it. Thats not a terrible processor by any means.

The CPU should be ok, if you overclock it higher. 4.5GHz oughta do. Just keep the temps under ~60C. Also, the PSU should be sufficient, the peak power consumption under load would likely not even get close to 700w. Two 600's in 8x PCIe configuration would not lose much performance, if any. When you have the money to upgrade the CPU, than the FX-8320 should do quite well. That motherboard has a great VRM design, so you should be able to achieve some fantastic clocks with any CPU you pop in it. (With proper cooling, of course.)

Is 4.0 not high enough? I use the hyper 212 evo so I do not know if I can OC much higher. I was looking at the 8350 for upgrading, would it be worth it to get that instea of the 8320?
