Hey guys will be building my first gaming pc, mainly for battlefield 4, but other games as well. I will be using the i5 4670 (non K edition because I don't know how to overclock and trying to keep my first build simple) anyway I was almost sold on the GTX 770 as the two seem to perform perfect together but AMD just undercut the 770 by $100. I am wondering is the $100 saved worth it. I've heard good and bad things about amd cards, from bad drivers, and so on. I've never used either so just trying to get some more professional feedback. Thanks in advance!

Anytime new cards are released there are problems. So there will be problems, but they will get fixed up pretty quick. And honestly, its hard to say right now until more benchmarks of the new cards become available.

The 280x is a rebranded 7970 but doesn't perform as well as the 7970 in benchmarks I saw. Performance wise the 770 is stronger, right now with the 290x performance and price still unknown I would stick with the 7970.

That is actually up for debate. Some games the 280x wins hands down, other games the 770 does. Besides, there are no official non-beta drivers yet. So when its actually released along with drivers and updates for it... And thats not to say how much you could overclock it, since AMD cards generally OC very well, much better than Nvidia

Overall, the R9 280x and GTX 770 offer very similar performance as shown below for 1920x1080 resolution. Click the link to the review so that you can look at the individual game benchmarks.

If you are not particularly loyal to AMD or nVidia, then let the benchmarks of the games you want to play and the price of the GPUs make your decision.

I'm thinking of getting one at launch but your comment concerns me a bit. When you say problems do you mean with the actual hardware or just drivers?

With any new release of any new product there are bound to be issues, whether minor or major. The 7000 series and 600 series had issues when they first released. Luckily, since the R9 is a modified Tahiti/Pitcairn architecture there shouldn't be too many issues. Similar to how/why the 700 series from Nvidia released pretty smoothly.

If there are problems they will very likely be driver related and you can be assured they'll be fixed ASAP.
