Hi,

I have a problem with my system:
ASUS Crosshair IV Formula
AMD Phenom II x6 1090T
2 x Radeon HD 6870
16GB (4x4GB) Corsair RAM

The problem is, that it freezes sometimes. Could this be because of the CPU? I tried only to use 1 6870 card and still freezing happens.

Now that I plan upgrading my graphics card (ASUS MATRIX Platinum 7970) i wanted to know if its better to try a 1100T first or to completely get a new MoBo (but i like my c4f)...

Thanks alot for all your suggestions ;)

Solution
Yes, the RAM setting in the BIOS, because your CPU supports the RAM speed up to 1333MHz http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/K10/AMD-Phenom%20II%20X6%201090T%20Black%20Edition%20-%20HDT90ZFBK6DGR%20%28HDT90ZFBGRBOX%29.html so any over 1333Mhz is OC. You need to tweak the voltage by small amount, you will be fine after tweak the setting, for example, if your RAM set to 9-9-9-24, 1.5V then you can up to 1.55V, 1.56V, 1.57V, etc. Or try to 9-9-9-26 to play a little bit the setting. For info check online for how to OC RAM, I add one of them here. http://www.ocfreaks.com/ram-overclocking-guide-tutorial/

OC: over a year ago with a ASUS program and just minimal settings...
PSU: Cooler Master Silent Pro Gold 700W
RAM: Corsair Vengeance Low Profile DDR3 1600 CL9-9-9-24

Could it be that the Crosshair 4 Formula does something wrong with the Voltage of the RAMs? If i set the RAM to 1600 it asks "Increase Voltage automatically or Keep fixed setting" or something like that...
And i set it to auto-increase...

(i just can't believe that i havent seen this spec of my cpu)

Now that i have set the RAM to 1333 everything seems to work fine.
So if i want my 1600 setting back, i just need to increase the RAM-Voltage?
Or do i need to change something at the CPU as well?

Yesterday i have set this Values:
- RAM-Voltage to 1.575 V (i correct it if I remember it wrong now)
- RAM-Speed to 1600 MHz
- RAM-Timing to 9-9-9-26 (even if corsair says something different: http://www.corsair.com/memory-by-product-family/vengeance/vengeance-low-profile-16gb-dual-channel-ddr3-memory-kit-cml16gx3m4a1600c9.html)

As i read in the Tutorial you linked above, i understand that i don't have to change the FSB, because it is at 200MHz and with the highest possible fsb/dram ratio (1:4) it allows to drive it at 1600MHz. Or would it be better to keep the fsb/dram ratio for 1333MHz and then OC the FSB to 240MHz for reaching 1600MHz RAM?

It kept stable with the settings above... I only did some Testing with Prime 95 and Furmark at the same time, some Gaming, some Web-Browsing and so on... no real test.
Thanks for the cool tip for PhenomII OCing... Helps me to understand everything a lot better. I will post all the changes i make in the future here ;)

Now my ASUS Matrix-HD7970 Platinum arived :D

So here are my stable settings I made:

- Changed RAM from 1333 9-9-9-24 (auto value) to 1600 9-9-9-24 (testet settings from Corsair).
- Changed CPU-NB voltage from 1.156 V (auto value) to 1.200 V to make the RAM run stable and stop the freezing.

That was everything. Now my PC runs stable! It was just the "limit" of the CPU to run only 1333 RAM.

Big big big thanks to cin19!
