Need advice if this is doable now,

Currently my rig consist have GTX680 4gb x2. with 3x dell U2313 with landscape surround for gaming.

I have ordered 5x dell U2913WM. Will i be able to connect the 5 monitors in portrait for gaming like my previous 3 monitors?

Thanks

I dont think you'll be able to. I think the GTX 680 is limited to 4 monitors (per card). The only way you''ll be able to get all 5 running is connecting to both of your cards which would disable SLI. I believe Surround has to be done all from one card for gaming. You can run the monitors independently from the two seperate cards, but wont be able to create a surround group.

Even if you go AMD you are going to be very limited. You'll need an "EyeFinity 6" card that allows connecting up to 6 monitors. Most of these cards are going to use displayport only so if your monitors dont have displayports you'll need an adapter for each. If you decide to go this route, due to the resolution you'll be running I would go with the BEST card your budget will allow. This would be either a 7950 or 7970 most likely. With AMD releasing there new cards this week you might want to wait and see if the new cards are offered in the EyeFinity 6 versions.

Thanks,
Just did and still doing google for more info on the new cards.

Will probably try to get the best card out there this time round, do I need 2 or 3 pieces?

Is there an accurate date to when the new cards(290x) will be released?

Edit: I just found out about those other variant of the same card with additional display port. Do I need to get those or additional amd cards will solve my 5 monitors?

Thank you

If you want to run all 5 monitors as one for gaming purposes, you'll have to have them all connected to the same card which means an EyeFinity 6 card is going to be your only option.

I will throw out as an alternative, there is a program called SoftH. It allows combining screens into one even if they are on different video cards. I used the software in the past before EyeFInity was official. While it works, it has to be configured individually for everygame and is far user friendly. While its alternative to the EyeFinity 6 cards wouldnt recommend it. Technically though you could get SoftH running on your current setup without replacing the vdeo card.

Hi guys, the monitors arrived, bought 2 new AMD cards but....

I am having problems running a few games at max (Tomb raider) or acceptable(Final fantasy 14 ARR) levels.

For Tomb raider, when i run in ultimate mode, the game is barely playable low FPS.
Can't even get past simple events but easily gotten thru lowering settings by 1 level.

For FF14, i get constant crash, booted to windows.

Running my display in Portrait mode x5, with resolution 5400 by 1080.

Here are my specs(Not sure if any other info is needed):

Windows 7
Dell U2913WM x 5
Intel i7-4770K CPU @ 3.50 Ghz
32 GB RAM
MSI HD 7990 x 2 (have tried AMD drivers 13.9, 13.10beta2, 13.11beta)
Asrock z87 Extreme 6

Not sure if that is even possible, hopefully gurus can enlighten me here if its possible or what i need to do. Thanks
