getting an AMD FX8320, which i intend to cool with a coolermater hyper 212 evo in a coolermaster haf912 + case and run on an Asus M5A97 LE R2.0 ATX AM3+

the cheaper 1 probably as i dont know whether or not the version with bios diff is worth the extra (please advise)

what i need is an idiots guide to overclocking on this system for a reasonable increase, 4.2-4.5 maximum my gpu will be a powercolor 7950 again the cheaper version (2 fans)

is 4.2-4.5 reasonable given it is a lottery, what are the maximum voltages safe to use? and will i fit all this including the overclock on a 550w psu (bronze rated)?

sorry ppl, bit of an essay q here

Hi and welcome to Tom's forum.

I would recommend you don't overclock with that motherboard, it's a good motherboard but not designed for overclock and with few phase powers, those phase powers are the responsible for overclocking capabilities.

4.2-4.5 maybe are possible but not with this model. If you still want try overclock, go to your BIOS and disable this features:

1) Turbo Core
2) C1E
3) Spread Spectrum
4) Cool'n'Quiet

After that, download and install Coretemp. Let us know the temps of your rig on idle and load, based on that we can give you some advice for overclock that CPU.

Ok I have my FX-4300 at 4.5Ghz and 1.45 volts if that is anything to go by. I wouldn't put your v-core any higher than 1.5 or your CPU life will be drastically shortened regardless of cooler, 550w sounds fine to me. I guess your realistic limit will be around 4.3-4.4Ghz so good luck :)
