I'm playing Runescape and I want a laptop that will run it efficiently. I've stumbled upon two laptops. One is a dual-core with 2.9ghz-3.5ghz while the other is a quad-core with 2.1ghz-3.1ghz. Here's the links, you look at the specs and tell me. (The quad has a better integrated graphics chip).

Just between those two and not suggesting anything else. Get the one from Best Buy. Ebay is sketchy and an A-8 is better for graphics than an A-6 anyways.

Suggesting another: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Completely worth the extra $100 in every way. Has dedicated graphics, a faster CPU, more RAM. Plus, I like Asus, they tend to put out great products and have a high satisfaction rating and good customer service.

The 17.3" HP (BestBuy) has a slightly more powerful APU with a slightly more powerful graphics core. The 1600x900 resolution screen means you can see more on the desktop at a single time than the 15.6" HP (eBay). That makes multitasking a lot easier. However, running games at full resolution will mean that the Radeon HD 8550g's performance in the 17.3" HP will be lower than the Radeon HD 8450g's performance at 1366x768 on the 15.6" laptop. You can always drop the resolution on the 17.3" HP to 1366x768 when playing games.

Actually that would be $144 more when not taking into consideration taxes and shipping on any of the laptops.

Ohh... didn't notice the nVidia GT 610m... that chip is inferior to the Radeon HD 8550g by a wide margin. At least when comparing one weak graphics core to another weak graphics core. The Core i5 3230M is more powerful than the A8-5550M for raw computational performance though.

The following open box 15.6" Acer Aspire V5-552G-8632 is probably the best laptop you can buy for games that does not go over $400 by too much; $424 + $2 shipping.

It has an AMD A8-5557M APU which is still a bit weak compared to a Core i5-3230m. However, it has a dedicated Radeon HD 8750m which is almost just as powerful as the nVidia GT 640m. It basically smacks down both the GT 610m and the integrated Radeon HD 8550g. It is also fairly light at 4.41 lbs.

Will the fact that Runescape is a browser game mean that you need a more powerful CPU than GPU? I wasn't aware that the APUs were more powerful than dedicated graphics because I haven't found a good source of benchmarks.

I do not think Runescape is particularly CPU dependent, therefore the even an AMD A8 APU will not have problems with the game. Some integrated graphic cores are more powerful than dedicated graphics it depends which ones you are comparing. The nVidia GT 610m is pretty weak for a dedicated chip. Even the Intel HD 4000 is considered a little more powerful than it.

www.notebookcheck.net is a good source for laptop benchmarks. Below is the link to the nVidia GT 610m's performance. The middle column of the page has a ranked list of mobile graphic core based on their benchmarks. Even some desktop graphic cards are thrown in so that you can kind of compare how a mobile graphic core compares to a desktop graphics card.
