I have a home built HTPC with a mysterious boot issue. All of a sudden my boot time has gone from about 30 seconds to about 3 minutes. Celeron G540 with Biostar H77MU3 running LUbuntu. HDD is an OCZ SSD. For some reason the boot hangs on the "American Megatrends" screen (prior to the LUbuntu logo). Previously this screen would just flash for a few seconds but now it appears frozen. After I wait a while, the LUbuntu logo shows up, computer boots normally and behaves normally. Any ideas what could cause this?

Solution
If you change BIOS settings so it does not show the logo then you should see all the checks it does and you find out what check it gets stuck on. Fast boot on will skip the checks.

I don't ever remember setting it to fast boot, and definitely didn't do anything that I am aware of to reset it.

The only behavior difference I notice now is that it gives me a message for detecting my external HDD as detachable storage every time it starts. I have always left the HDD attached and it would boot up with the HDD already mounted as before. I try detaching the HDD and it still takes 3 min to get past the initial "American Megatrends" screen.
