Playstation 4 No Paid Internet Petititon

and apple proved that people will buy overpriced locked down garbage and keep on buying it year after year. yet android thrives. if android was locked down people would flock to the next best thing which would then grow in popularity. some users just refuse to settle.

quite a few ps3 users are likely to jump ship and head to pc gaming.

if the petition gets enough votes it could change something since we are the customers. if they dont listen then its only going to hurt them. basically its the only real thing they have against microsoft... the free internet of ps3 compared to paid xbl.

Won't make a difference, PS4 is pretty much going to win the generation either way simply because the PS4 is $100 cheaper than Xbox One and doesn't have a built in spy camera that can be used to sell your biometric data to advertisers. The only console manufacturer that isn't charging for online multiplayer is Nintendo, and at this point nobody cares what they do anymore. Nintendo simply isn't relevant outside of their core fanbase ever since they gave up trying to compete with everyone else in terms of hardware. The only other alternative is PC, and given the higher cost of entry (especially if you buy prebuilt) and general laziness from people who don't want to read system requirements or deal with the odd game or driver bug, I don't think charging for online is going to drive enough people away to make Sony care.

ps+ is a better value?

not really. i dont buy online games (so dont need the discount), i dont watch trailers on psn (so dont need early adoption) and those that i have watched are full of broken links or videos that dont play. i'm all for supporting psn but not in this way. i would rather pay an extra $100 for the system up front and $60 for extra controllers like we already do. its complete crap is what it is.

what we are asking for is free basic game playing ability... not all of the extra features sony is adding to psn like video sharing. ps3 does this already... and succeeding. it sounds like sony is just jumping on the greed bandwagon.

sitting still and just accepting it means that yes there will be no change... it takes effort to do something.

I do not play multieplayer any way so I personally do not care if they charge for it or not makes no difference to me. I subscribe to PS+ for the free games they offer that is it. And I do not even bother with the ones that are multieplayer only.

Both MS and Sony are going to push online VERY heavily with the next gen, that will require a lot more servers than the last gen...and their shareholders would like lots of money as well.

I'm sorry but I do not agree with this. It was already said that they needed to charge in order to improve their servers. PS+ also pays for itself with the included games. Its a service I've been paying for for 2 years and have been very happy with. I do care far less because I'm already paying for it and it basically doesn't affect me but I would rather have the improved servers and free games for $50 than low quality servers at no cost. PS+ comes with Drive Club day one on PS4 which would cost more than your paying for PS+ in the first place.

psn is also likely to keep the rediculously high prices as well. ie you can buy a game on psn for $60 when you can get a physical disk on amazon for $30 of the same thing. even with a ps+ discount you still pay more for less.

sony also stated that they graciously let us keep used games since we have to pay for ps+. gee, what a tradeoff. not being able to play used games would kill consoles since not everyone can pay $60 a game and over 50-75% of new titles blow anyways so arent worth the price.

i agree good servers are a nice thing but a yearly subscription is not the way to go. even if it was there should be a basic version for just gaming at like $10/year which doesnt include any of the extras they bundle in to raise the price (like video sharing, etc). its not about the money, its about the concept.

ps1=free, ps2=free, ps3=free
then why not ps4? its not going to be any more multiplayer based than ps3 already is so not much more demand.

I have a PS+ subscription. Its like 4 bucks a month, and they're filling the 1TB HDD I dropped into my PS3 with "free" games. Downloaded like 4 new ones this month... It's really hard to complain about the value of the service, honestly. It's a great deal.

I understand where your coming from, PSN had it advantage over Xbox because it was free. If this was just an Xbox live clone for the privalage of playing online at the cost $50 a year then I would totally agree. But its a great system. I don't make a lot of money right now and can't afford to just go buy all the games I want, but for $50 a year I get a game every week. So what if I don't own the game, if I have access to PS+ I can play its free games.

I can also see paying less for just multiplayer but at the same time I see that as a terrible idea, who in their right mind would pass up weekly free games when they are already paying for a subscription? When I first signed up I got $2-300 in games that day, it is an investment I will never regret because I'm getting more entertainment out of my $50 than the average $60 title provides.

why would i pass up the free games you ask? because 90% of all playstation (or even all games created across consoles AND pc) are absolute trash not worth my time. personal opinion perhaps but essentially that is how i see it.

i also would never use the game demos, video sharing or other features. the only features that i might use are a few game downloads (not enough to worry about a discount) and of course online for a select few games to play multiplayer.

again... its not the cost its the principle. its as bad as the taxes in towns for the privilege to work there or a cell network charging to be able to link your phone to your laptop for internet yet its a free built in part of android.

i would gladly pay $5 more for a new game for $50-100 more for a console than have a subscription fee tacked on.

personal opinion perhaps but i'm not alone. read comments on the news articles announcing ps+ requirements if you dont believe me.

in any case.....

this is not a debate. it is an informational listing for the petition to any who are interested.

I believe you, but there are plenty of people who don't have an issue with it. We just have opposite opinions on the issue and I shared my reasoning. I will admit there are bad titles and over the past month specifically there hasn't been anything ive been interested in playing. I can understand not wanting to pay for a previously free service, but I feel like the benefits are worth the subscription.

I did not intend to start a debate, just wanted to share my opinion.

It is only what $79 a year? Not to bad, and since that will probably only be used to improve their fortune and of course in a slightly smaller way improve the servers, why not, at least it isnt an xbox one... and pc gaming is so much cooler, you can mod your games o_O
