I have a computer that is about 5yrs old with a AMD Athlon 64X2 dual core processer. I would like to install a ssd hard drive and upgrade the operating system to either windows 7 or 8. Would also like to use exsisting hard drive for 2nd storage device. what size ssd hard drive would be recommended?

That really depends on your system usage. If you have a ton of games that you play all the time, then you probably want a larger (256GB-512GB) SSD. If you're just running Windows and one or two applications on a regular basis, you could probably get away with an 80GB SSD. For the middle ground, I've been recommending a 128GB SSD.

I look at the chipset of the motherbord in the pc first. if the chipset is as old as you say you may get a lot of crashes with a ssd. ssd run bets on the newer chipsets. intel a few years back had issues with some of there chipsets and ssd. with older chipsets your ssd going to be stuck running real slow.

Plus an SSD won't make your system any faster, it just loads programs faster.

What do you do on your pc? Perhaps this money is better invested into something newer.
