So i really want to buy the xi3 piston but the main problem is that i have a 1000 dollar budget and this thing comes only with a 128 gb hard drive. If you want a bigger HDD you have to pay enormous amounts. To solve this problem i would just connect my external HDD and use it as internal, but if i install a game on my external would it still work?

You would have to pull apart the external case and take the hard drive out, assuming its a newer external so it should hook up like a sata drive, but if its IDE you would need an IDE port on ur mobo, as for installing software to it, you would just change the install path to your backup drive

Ok after looking at the xi3 piston, no way would a full size hard drive fit into it, you can run the games off external but it might not be as fast as it would having the drive inside ur computer, If the external is 3.0, It might be an ok speed

That thing has both eSATA and USB 3 ports in it, if you get an external drive to use, it should be running at an OK speed to install programs on. The issue is if you CAN install anything on an external drive using that system. You'd need to check the manual or contact their support to be sure.

I assume you realize that you could build a pc, even a small one, with much better specs for less than the thousand dollars they want for this Trinity APU micro-pc? Don't get me wrong, its pretty kewl but I wouldn't game on it and I wouldn't spend that much for an HTPC.

A8-5500 - $100
128gb ssd - $80
8gb ram - $80
motherbd - $100
Case - $100
windows - $100

steam OS/client - FREE
-----------------------------------
total - $560

I was going to suggest just building or buying a real computer, but I figured the OP would have looked over the options before choosing the xi3. If someone is looking at that appliance, I would think that the knew the regular computer options as well.
