Just acquired an LG 29EA93 monitor with a native resolution of 2560x1080, hooked up the DVI cable, but the picture is terrible. I have to change to 1920x1080 just to read the screen. The video card is radeon 6900HD series with 2 GB of RAM. It says it supports this high res but I don't think so?
Intel core i5-2500K CPU @ 3.30 GHz
16GB RAM
win 7 pro 64bit
Do I need a different graphics card?
When I set the resolution in windows it says I am in 2560x1080 but I get a warning from the monitor that says its only in 1280x1080.
Am I missing something? HELP!

Solution

You'll need to use a dual link DVI cable for that resolution, as you are using an AMD graphics card try the other DVI port as on a lot of AMD cards only one of the ports is dual link. Alternatively use the Display Port output. If all the above doesn't work then you have either a faulty graphics card or a faulty monitor

Any other issues? Mine came with a dual link and the desktop looks fine but in-game (far cry 3) I get black bars on the sides even with everything set to 2560x1080.

Well I just had to try Black ops 2 on it and it works perfectly. Amazing picture. At full 2560x1080 resolution. No black bars any where. Looks great in text or game mode.(on the monitor settings). I have the display port hooked up.

The monitor is ultra widescreen with an aspect ratio of about 21:9 (it's the standard cinema resolution most movies have). The resolution is 2560x1080.
