Spec
i5 3470
Asus P8Z77
Sapphire Radeon 7950
8GB Corsair
650 Seasonic Bronze
Thermaltake Case with 1 cpu fan
SSD Samsung 840 256 GB + 500gb Green WD + 2TB Green WD

In addition before this random freeze & monitor lose signal, my computer sometimes randomly shut down then start again. Since I thought my mobo is the culprit maybe I can swipe 2 problem my ditch one hardware. So I bought ASUS z77 and Instant shutdown is gone but this random lose signal still exist, current investigation show that after a week it comes up mostly on the first boot and it can happen at any times at that time, browsing, streaming, watching video, playing games, word processing. Once it happens, it rarely crash again.

Temp is all good, GPU never went more than 59c, CPU does its job too and I bought another insane heatsink because mobo seller told me why not adding this one as well. I have run memtest for 30 minutes to an hour and no problem, driver sweeper GPU and still problem exists, no overclock ever made to this system.

PSU should be good,if not, it might fails on 3d benchmark test which draw power from PSU (and mobo will be instantly affected or might be instant shutdown if PSU fails). All these research start to scared me that my VGA is the real target of this problem.

Another thing is that on the old mobo, I switch my GPU to PCI 2.0 slot because I believe 3.0 slot on mobo is broken (which caused random shutdown), maybe this issue is not really comes out because I was too busy handling random shutdown thingy but I still thing about that in a moment, maybe I was pointing the wrong hardware at the very first beginning, maybe its my VGA, all this peripheral still less than one year old, still have plenty of time to claim my warranty, just need to know which one.

At the same time I have a decent offer from somebody on 660 Ti Gigabyte OC that I 90% will take just in case I need to RMA this 7950 so I can still do gaming.

Any suggestion?currently GPU is 90% the culprit but maybe..just maybe somebody have experienced this issue and can confirm that he bought the right hardware to fix this..

First check the HDD and SSD : http://crystalmark.info/software/CrystalDiskInfo/index-...

Second, remove the GPU and test with MB's VGA port(if available) to see if the problems persists. Or try another GPU.

Third, test RAM sticks separately for alteast 5 passes with memtest. Its better to test for 5-6 hours.

And a question : Did you clean install OS or reinstall OS with the new MB ?

HDD and SSD all good, been using crystaldisk since a month ago and fix some recent lock up with firm update
Since there is unknown time when the lockup will happen (except the very first time computer starts at the day), I never tried that but the next day maybe be the right time.
been trying only 1 stick ram and still happen with the old mobo.

the only time I do clean install is when I got my SSD. its funny that this freeze only happen once or twice a day..

So you didn't do a clean install when you replace the MB ? You can do it now. And what about the memtest ?

The problem with reinstalling windows is the follow up operation to do reinstall all the application and re-settings most of the apps, have done it before and read from thousand of thread that it wont solve the problem so I will do it as the very last pick since it will feels like shooting in the dark. Still not done memtest for hardcore hours but its all good since I basically just toying around with changing the slot for PCI-e for 7950 and change how the cable connected. First boot and still no crash for 2 hours.

maybe there is something wrong with the connection so the very first time it boots, it didnt give enough signal or voltage, then after several minutes it 'tunes' in. anyhow problem solved, thanks

sorry for bump, the real culprit on freeze and blackscreen in this case is GPU itself, try with furmark full res and freeze on 2 or 3 mins and running memtestcl found 50 errors on random block. replacing the gpu and furmark complete without any issue. no more blackscreen, freeze etc.
